Modifiers affect the way drawing, moving and editing actions behave. When an action is modified it is carried out in relation to something else.
The Snap to Path modifier allows you to carry out drawing, moving and editing actions in relation to the start, end, midpoints and paths of other individual objects. For example, a line can be drawn exactly from the endpoint of one line to exactly the midpoint of another. This is very useful when you want to produce drawings in which objects are precisely connected, particularly if you’re not using the grid.
When the Snap to Path button is checked, your cursor will jump to the mid- or endpoint of an object when you are within a pre-defined on-screen distance from the mid- or endpoint.
If you start to drag an object with this modifier active the start-, mid- or endpoint of the object you’re dragging can be snapped to the start-, mid- or endpoint of another object. The point that snaps, whether it’s the middle or the end of the entity, is determined by where you click on the object to start dragging it. The mid- or endpoint closest to the cursor when you pick the object up is the one that will snap to the other object’s mid- or endpoint.
You can toggle Snap to Path using the FastKey F6 - this applies even in the middle of drawing and editing actions.
