Using Modifiers

Modifiers affect the way drawing, moving and editing actions behave. When an action is modified it is carried out in relation to something else, for instance, by snapping to gridpoints or other objects.  Using modifiers is the fastest way to ensure precise, accurate drawing: the following modifiers are available:

Snap to Grid

Snap to or between grid points according to settings in the Grid tab in the Document Properties dialog

Snap to Intersection

Snap to the intersection of two or more lines

Snap to Object

Snap to the mid- or end-point of other lines, or to the center of circles and ellipses

Snap to Rotation

Locks actions performed with the Rotate Cursor to increments defined in the Snap Defaults dialog

Snap to Connector

Snap to connectors, and maintain attachment using Rubber-Banding

Orthogonal Lock

Lock move and edit actions to one axis, i.e. either horizontally or vertically

The default states of modifiers, i.e. whether they are active or inactive, are stored in your document and, in new drawings, are stored in the template on which the drawing is based.
