Creating High-Resolution Images

Stardraw A/V Lite can save your drawing in various image formats, e.g. .JPG. .GIF, .BMP etc but these operations are limited to screen resolution.  To produce very high-resolution images appropriate for inclusion in, for example, desktop publishing files, brochures or other high-res output formats, we recommend you print to file using Encapsulated Postscript (.EPS).  This vector-based page description format will allow you to use your Stardraw A/V Lite files in a vareity of applications (e.g. Word, QuarkExpress, PageMaker etc) without any loss of quality.

To create .eps files you need to install a Postscript printer driver - the Apple LaserWriter 16/600 PS works well, but any LaserWriter PS should do as well. When you add the printer in Windows you can set it to print to file rather than to an LPT port. Then print your drawing using this printer (if the printer has been set to print to file you do not need to check the "Print to File" box). You will be asked to specify a file name - be sure to give it a .eps extension.

You can then insert the .eps file into any other Windows application, e.g. Word, Powerpoint etc. Be sure that the destination application has the required EPS (Encapsulated PostScript) graphics filters installed.

Note: The default line width in Stardraw A/V Lite is 0 or 'hairline'.  When you print, a 0 width line will print as finely as the resolution of your printer will allow.  On very high resolution printers, or when creating a high-resolution image, this may be too faint.  In these cases you can increase the line width for all the objects in your drawing by a small amount (the amount will vary depending on the type and size of your drawing); the increase in line width should be barely noticeable on screen, but will create a much bolder impressions of lines in your printed output or high-res image file.
